Matching decors across 3D laminates, TFLs and HPL has become more and more important – essentially offering “one-stop-shopping” for designers – but until recently reproducing the surface texture was perhaps an afterthought. As design fidelity increases throughout the industry, creating a matching textured laminate surface becomes increasingly important as the trending heavier textures affect how the decors are perceived and experienced.

A great example of how SSI has become the leader in this aspect are the new textured surface embossings that we have launched in conjunction with leaders in the TFL industry. We have been working with advanced engraving and coating techniques to create high fidelity finishes that enhance both woodgrain textures and solid colors, creating great textural and haptic results.

Boreal is a realistic rustic textured woodgrain embossing with soaring cathedrals and great contrast. It takes its name from the Boreal Forest (more romantically called the Snow Forest) which is the world’s largest land biome. We have taken the essence of the Boreal forest with its diverse coniferous tree mix of pine, spruce, larches and firs and distilled it into the tactile experience of the new Boreal woodgrain texture. The visual effect is enhanced by the new matte/ultra-matte coating technique which when combined with the deep embossing leaves the overall impression of a freshly sawn piece of timber. 

Textured Woodgrain Laminates

Modern Wood Pore is as its name suggests is a modern interpretation of a traditional woodworking finish. It has been developed in response to the market desire for fine furniture and is designed for combination with woodgrain decors that represent elegant, soft and updated classic looks (think Rift Oak). We are using the newly developed matte/ultra-matte coating technique with an artisanally inspired engraving process to produce a textured woodgrain surface that has the look and feel of finely sanded wood. The pore structure and depth of the woodgrain texture gives a complex, authentic feel to the surface. 

When designers specify materials and finishes they are looking for trend setting solutions and unique proprietary designs with a durability appropriate to the application. SSI’s 3DL textured laminates offer the trifecta – beautiful, creative woodgrain designs and colorations with state-of-the-art textured surfaces that increase the durability of the textured laminate significantly. Using 3DL woodgrains in place of natural materials and veneers is the environmentally friendly option and with the latest technological developments is now the most desirable option too.
